The present text presents the conclusion of the essay publish, integrally, in the fourth number of “Cadernos do Lumiar”. Returning to the question raised in the beginning of the essay – how does the geopolitical culture, left by the dominance of the geopolitical approach, influence Portuguese institutional commitment? –, it reflects on how the isolationist and geographic perspective and habits have undermined its involvement in international security structures and have shortened Portuguese perceptions on security matters. Drawing from these conclusions, the author points to the need for Portugal to adapt traditional security concerns and perceptions to the new conditions of its foreign policy, particularly membership in a set of security institutions.
