With the end of the Cold War and the new world paradigm, the UN has developed and increased new peacekeeping operations. This text addresses the UN's main motives in peacekeeping and the constraints in the international system. It also analyses the changes brought about by the end of bipolarity and the contemporary challenges ahead (e.g. in Somalia and Cambodia).
